Co-operative Preschool

Co-operative preschools are democratic organizations operated by the families enrolled. Parents are directly involved in every aspect of the preschool’s operation, from the boardroom to the classroom.

This gives parents a key role in developing our classroom programming and in making financial decisions regarding tuition and expenses. Each year at the AGM, a volunteer Board of Directors is elected from within the membership. They meet monthly throughout the year to monitor the preschool’s business operation.

This Board is made up of the following positions:

  1. Chairperson (President)

  2. Vice Chair (Vice-President)

  3. Treasurer

  4. AssistantTreasurer

  5. Secretary/Communications Officer

  6. Fundraising Officer

  7. Operations  (Volunteer Coordinator) Officer

  8. Membership (Registrar) Officer

The Board is guided by the Chairperson and our staff of Early Childhood Educators.

Other Ways To Participate in our Playschool :

  • The playschool may organize field trips or special event days which require additional parent assistance. Families can sign up for these days as the schedule allows throughout the year.

  • The teachers often look for certain items (e.g. baby food jars, toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, etc.) to use in the classroom for crafts or interactive play and will send out a notice in the monthly newsletter requesting the items.

  • If you have a career that would be interesting for the children to learn about, volunteer your time in the classroom as we often have special guest days during the school year.

  • The school operates on a small budget each year, consider volunteering your time to help improve the classroom if you have a specific skill or are handy.

We are licensed through the Alberta Government and follow the guidelines provided by Alberta Health Services for the safety of all members of the Playschool cooperative.
